The Angel Falls expedition is considered by its visitors as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You can do the expedition by helicopter overflight or on foot through the Amazon rainforest. The grandeur of this landscape is considered by its visitors as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, this expedition is not the only experience you can do apart from visiting Angel Falls. The attraction of Canaima National Park is to immerse yourself in the purity of the Amazon rainforest and be welcomed by the Pemón tribe.
Salto el Hacha and Salto El Sapo are two waterfalls that come from the Carrao River, the same river that supplies the Canaima Lagoon and later the Angel Falls. To reach them, a short 2-hour expedition will take you across the Canaima Lagoon aboard a Curiara led by a Pemón guide who is an expert in the area.
During the crossing of the Canaima Lagoon, you will pass in front of the Golondrina Falls where you will be able to see the power of these waters, especially in the rainy season. The first stop will be at the Salto el Hacha, in this place visitors pass under the waterfall through an internal passage where you can experience the incredible power and sound of nature.
Later on, you will walk 3 kilometers through the Canaima National Park until you reach the Salto el Sapo where again with the strength of its waters you can connect with nature and live a unique experience. Salto el Hacha and Salto El Sapo are two exceptional places to connect with nature in all its splendor.
Pozo Azul excursión
The Blue Well excursion is an ecological excursion that starts with the Curiara ride on the Carrao River, offering breathtaking views of the majestic tepuis such as Nonoi and Auyantepuy. After exploring the Moroko channel, we disembark to walk to the Pozo Azul, a beautiful waterfall with water in the middle of nature, and finish with the trek to Tepuy Kuravaina.
Pozo Azul eco tour begins by navigating in traditional curiaras along the Carrao River. Along this river you will observe the vast savannahs and gallery forests, catching glimpses of iconic tepuis such as Nonoi, Kurún, and Auyantepuy on the horizon, depending on the weather.
After the pleasant crossing of the Carrao River, we enter the narrow Moroko Channel, a winding waterway rich in diverse flora and fauna. This area is a birdwatcher’s paradise, offering sights of the “Tree of Life” and the majestic Moriche palm, known as “Kuai”.
We reach land at a picturesque port and begin a 30-minute trek through a lush gallery forest with a variety of palms and crystal-clear streams originating from the Kuravaina tepui. We will also find a unique perspective of the iconic tepuis of Canaima. We continue the journey on foot to reach a waterfall inside the gallery forest, where we can take a refreshing swim in the Pozo Azul (Blue Well). The adventure continues with another 50-minute hike, this time ascending 498 meters (about 1633.86 ft) to the summit of the Kuravaina tepuy. The panoramic views from the summit, lining up with the imposing Kurún and Kusary tepuis, are simply breathtaking.
Start the descent, spending 30 minutes descending and another 40 minutes walking through vast savannahs. Return for a leisurely curiara ride to the Ucaima port, where waiting vehicles will take you back to your lodge. The entire trip takes between 5 and 6 hours, including the round trip. To ensure your comfort during this physically demanding adventure, we provide a simple lunch and refreshing snacks.
